ORGANIZATIONAL & PROCESS FACILITATION • CONSULTING • LEADERSHIP SUPPORT
Facilitating the conversations organizations need most—the ones that make everything else possible.
Core Areas of Work
These areas reflect where alignment work most often begins, not where it has to. Most engagements draw on more than one, and some of the best work starts with a question rather than a category. If you’re not sure where to start, let’s talk.
The Alignment Practice works with organizations that are trying to do meaningful work well: nonprofits, schools, public agencies, foundations, mission-driven businesses, coalitions, community groups, and leadership teams navigating change.
Most engagements take place in the Flathead Valley and across Montana, with some work available remotely. Travel outside the region is available for the right engagement.
-
The strongest plans are built on a foundation of shared clarity — about who you are, what you believe, and where you're headed. This work meets you wherever you are in that process: developing or revisiting your mission, vision, and values; designing a full strategic plan; or stepping back to identify the big vision that should be driving everything else. Whatever the scope, the goal is the same — to leave with a direction your whole team helped build and actually believes in.
-
Boards do their best work when they understand their role, trust their relationships, and have the structures to back both up.
This work spans board education, governance design, and board-staff alignment — helping organizations build the clarity and shared agreements that actually support the mission. Whether you’re onboarding new board members, revisiting how decisions get made, or working through a shift in roles and responsibilities, this is the space to do it with intention.
-
Every organization has a culture — the question is whether it's one you've built intentionally. This work helps teams develop a deeper understanding of how they work, what they need from each other, and what's possible when those things are named and honored. Whether you're a new team finding your footing or a seasoned one ready to go deeper, this is the foundation everything else builds on.
-
Sometimes organizations need to stop and look honestly at where they are. Not necessarily in crisis — just at a moment when the pace of the work has outrun the clarity underneath it. Recalibration is the chance to step back together, take stock, and recommit to where you’re going.
This might mean revisiting your core values, sharpening your strategy, rebuilding team agreements, clarifying decision-making structures, or simply naming what’s shifted since the last time you paused. It’s proactive, not reactive — and it’s often the most valuable thing a team can do before launching the next big initiative.
-
Leadership is deeply human work. Whether you’re stepping into a new role, building a team around a shared vision, or navigating a moment of organizational change, this is work that deserves real attention.
This may look like partnering with a board through a leadership transition, working with an executive team to build alignment, or supporting an individual leader seeking clarity and intention.
-
Some of the most important conversations happen not inside organizations, but between them — and with the communities they serve. This work brings process facilitation to public dialogue: creating the conditions for complex, multi-stakeholder conversations where every voice is honored and the group can move toward something real. Rooted in neutrality, skilled in holding difference, and committed to the belief that communities have the capacity to find their own way forward.

Kacy Howard
Kacy Howard is a facilitator, consultant, and the founder of The Alignment Practice. With nearly 20 years of experience spanning nonprofit leadership, community mental health, and education, she brings organizational credibility and deep human attentiveness to every room she enters.
Her work draws on Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead framework and Gracious Space facilitation — approaches that create the conditions for honest conversation, genuine collaboration, and lasting change. She has facilitated resilience workshops, moderated panel discussions, presented to large audiences, and spearheaded multi stakeholder coalitions — all work that requires holding complexity, building trust across difference, and moving groups toward shared purpose under pressure.
Kacy works with organizations navigating important moments: a shift in direction, a new vision, or the harder work of getting aligned before moving forward. Her practice is grounded in a simple but often overlooked belief — that the most important conversations are usually the ones organizations haven’t had yet.
Born and raised in the Flathead Valley, she has spent her career working across sectors — nonprofit, mental health, coalition building, and education — and brings that breadth to every engagement.
